C�mon Everybody!

Special concert for the whole family. C’mon Everybody! features original bilingual songs composed by Youth in Arts Mentor and artist Miguel Martinez, and performances by Nydia Algazzali Gonzalez and other YIA Mentor artists. This lively performance is interactive, encouraging audience members to move, sing, count, and dance along! This collection of songs was developed as a resource for teachers and parents to aid in specific developmental areas such as interpersonal skills, gross and fine motor skills, and language acquisition. We will sing in English and Spanish as well as some American Sign Language. It is fun and accessible for developmentally typical children, as well as children with cognitive or developmental delays.

A concert tribute to Latin American composers. The flute and percussions of Miguelito Martinez & Corazón Sur create a coastal ambiance impregnated by scents and breezes of the Caribbean, the scents of the ocean, of fruit, and of humid earth. The goal of the concert is to broaden the audience of the music of Mexican and Latin American composers such as Maria Grever, Agustin Lara, Consuelo Velazquez, and Rafael Hernandez, among others. These composers represent a style of music very distinct from the genres of Mexican music that have been typically distributed throughout the United States and the world. With this concert, Miguelito Martinez promotes and creates awareness about the musical richness and diversity of Mexico, widening the narrow view that the world has of Latin America.

A Midsummer Night�s Middle School Dream

Set in 2012 in the East Bay, A Midsummer Night’s Middle School Dream is a light-hearted comedy of supernatural mischief and middle school mayhem with an urban flair. Middle school tribulations and music are infused into Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream keeping as much of Shakespeare’s original language as possible. In this midsummer rendition, the young “lovers” are urban middle school students and the theme of romantic love is expanded to include the love of friends that middle ‘schoolers’ often seek even as they proclaim just the opposite.

The play is adapted and directed by Angela Dosalmas in collaboration with the 6th grade students. A talkback with the cast and directors will follow. Show runs approximately 90 min. This event is a fundraiser for Realm Charter School.
